Marie Curie Welcome heroic fundraiser home

Marie Curie Cancer Care welcomed Richard Parks home yesterday congratulating him on achieving his world first whilst raising funds in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Richard received a warm welcome back to the charity by Director of Fundraising Fabian French who praised the history maker stating; “We offer Richard our warmest congratulations in completing his remarkable challenge. Seven mountains and three poles within seven months is an amazing feat that Richard has achieved for Marie Curie Cancer Care and his sheer determination to complete it against all odds has been inspiring.  We are incredibly grateful for his fantastic fundraising efforts and the funds raised throughout his journey will allow Marie Curie Nurses to provide more free care for terminally ill people in their own homes or one of the charity’s hospices.”

Richard was taken on a tour to meet all the amazing staff that work at Marie Curie Cancer Care’s head office and was congratulated upon his success by everyone.  He shared some of his stories and highlights with the staff and said: “It was awesome to see Fabian and chat to all the staff that work at Marie Curie” he stated.  “It was lovely to meet all the dedicated individuals and teams who make this a wonderful charity and share my aspirations about working towards my £1m target”.

For Richard the 737 Challenge hasn’t finished yet and although he has completed the physical part of his world first challenge which saw him become the first ever person to climb the highest summit on each of the world’s continents and stand on all 3 poles in the same year, he still has a way to go in reaching his goal of raising £1m in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Richard commented: “Yesterday was really important in reiterating my commitment to raise funds until July next year.  With the support of Marie Curie, going forward I am determined to raise as much funds as possible. My final mountain to climb is my fundraising target and we have a long way to go yet. People have donated so generously already and I want to ensure that continues.  Every little penny helps and whether that’s making a small donation, taking on your own challenge or coming along to one of the fundraising events we will be organising over the months ahead, there are lots of ways people can get involved and that is really exciting for me”.
